Petals From The Past

Petals From The Past is quite possible one of my favorite places to visit. It is located in Jemison, Alabama. Jemison is about 2-1/2 hours from my house. Good thing its not any closer or I may be in trouble!!! But it would be a great place to work! The Garden Club takes a trip twice a year to Petals. We leave around 5 or 6am, stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and the next stop is Petals! We browse around the gardens, then we have lunch there. Jason Powell and his wife own Petals. They grow every plant they sell, in their gardens. Which is great because you can see it before you before you buy it! Most of the plants are old heirlooms plants, and plants that are rare. A lot of gardeners give him plants as well. I am one of them. I gave him several daffodils I found. They have a great little gift shop full of unique items, books, gardening supplies, jams, fresh fruit, etc. They have orchards where you can go pick your own fresh fruit. It is a magical place for me!
Here is one of the gardens they have
This area was a huge square with a gazebo in the center. They grow veggies in this garden.
Here is the gazebo, you can see the corn and other veggies growing. Neat layout.
I bought this phlox when I was there...but I don't think it lived!!! I am not happy about that! Here is Deborah with her grand daughter Debbie Jo. She was the highlight of the day...she is full of personality! She is eating fresh blackberries we picked. Here is some of the gang. Left to right: Shirley, Deborah, Courtney and Debbie Jo, Ramona, and my mom...The Dirt Queen. We were all extremely HOT and SWEATY at this point!
I hope to go back soon and I will take more photos of the entire place. Ya'll will love it. So if you are ever on I-65 between Birmingham and Montgomery...hop off on Exit 219 and visit Petals...it is right off of the interstate.

I will do just that! I haven't been to Alabama in a few years but would love to see this nursery. I think it was the owner who came to Nashville and did a program for our PPS. Debbie Jo is a cutie.

That looks like a fun place! I can't believe there are fresh blackberries there now! We won't have them until the end of August.
Did you buy anything? :)

I've been there twice this year already. It is a great nursery and the best place to find heirloom roses.

Tina - You should definitely make a pit stop there! Well worth it

Catherine - We don't have blackberried yet...sorry these photos were actually taken last June! I bought my blueberry bush from there though! I do have that same type of blackberry bush growing in my yard. It is thornless

K & V - I love to visit them as well...so many good ones to visit!

Phillip - I am jealous you have already been! They have such a great selection of roses. Have you ordered their catalog? This is their first year to put one out. It had tons of heirloom roses in it

That place looks awesome!

Hey, how far do you live from Fairhope? I'm coming down there for a meeting Thursday night. Unfortunately I have to leave Friday morning. Haven't you written about Fairhope having pretty flowers before?

It looks like you have so much fun. That kind of place is not 'too' large, just big enough to look around, find what you'd like, and enjoy yourself at the same time. My kind of place!! I haven't taken garden trips with anyone other than hubby yet...but I've actually met a few garden bloggers that live fairly close to me, and we've talked about getting together. I think that would be fun.
I'd love to have some fresh blackberries...that's something we get at the farmers market or grocery store (rarely though) Happy Spring;-)
