This dinner brought to you by.....

....... my fellow blog friends....Becky @ A Southern Garden by Becca http://beccasgardenspot.blogspot.com/ and Marilyn @ Wheelchair Gardener http://wcgardener.blogspot.com/. I had a great visit with Marilyn and her husband yesterday afternoon. They shared some garden goodies with me.....
Potatoes, Lettuce, Dill & Onion
Look at those babies!
And peas!!!! Becca shared some fresh squash from her garden with me, so The Hunter and I had a great dinner! He fried up some deer meat, and I cooked the potatoes.... I sliced the squash, onions and threw in the dill...and Wha- lah....dinner is served. I saved the peas and lettuce for tonight. Marilyn also shared some plants with me. Impatiens, Begonia, 2 hydrangeas, Black Eyes Susan Vine, Hollyhock, the other 3 plants, I can't remember what they were (sorry I was too excited!). One is a ground cover that has yellow blooms...I do remember that much! I can't wait to get all of this in the ground Saturday.

Fly Rita, Fly!

Rita Brown is one of the founding members of The North Mobile Garden Society. For the past 17 years she has been fighting (and FIGHTING HARD) multiple types of cancer, breast cancer, bone cancer, brain cancer. The brain cancer caused Rita to lose her vision in the recent months, but Rita never gave up. Rita has been in a nursing home for the past few months. She has fought it til the end. Last night at our Garden Club meeting Debbie and Doreen where there. They are 2 of Rita's very dear friends. They have been there for Rita everyday. It is amazing to have such wonderful friends, and God has blessed Rita with many of them. Debbie told us that hospice did not expect Rita to make it through the night. I have not heard an update this morning. Please pray for Rita, her family and her friends to get through this very difficult time. This is Rita's caringbridge site, http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/viewHome.do. Please visit it, and read a little about Rita. Debbie posted a quote on her site that sums up Rita : "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safley in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO. what a ride." This is a poem written for Rita by her dear friend Pastor Robert Warren: Fly, fly Rita, fly away!Spread your God-given wings and fly. Fly to the land of trees and waters and birds and laughter and songs and friends, fly! Fly to the sights, fly to the lights you see. Don't worry about us, go ahead, fly,we'll follow you soon enough when our wings spread like yours. I am going to file this under Gifts from Garden Friends....because Rita has given so many of us in The North Mobile Garden Society an amazing gift that we all are so thankful for, a gift that we would not have had without her. Not to mention the gifts that she has given everyone that she knew. Fly Rita Fly!

Gifts from garden friends

Gardeners love to share. Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to see a fellow blogger WC Gardener. She gave me some amazing plants. Foxtail fern Forsythia
Night blooming Cereus (http://www.desertusa.com/mag99/july/papr/nbcereus.html), Night blooming cactus, English Dogwood, and 3 different orchids. I know that one of them is a Nun's Orchid (http://grumpygardener.southernliving.com/grumpy_gardener/2009/03/hey-sister-get.html). I have never grown orchids, so I am excited about them.
I also managed to get away with a bunch of fresh collards...The Hunter loves them...as do I!

Please sign my guest book :)
