America the Beautiful

I want to wish all of you a happy and safe 4th! Let's not forget what this country was founded on, and remember the men and women who have fought and died for our country. While we are enjoying a relaxing weekend, think of the men and women overseas, who are in full dress in 110*+ degree heat, fighting for your freedom.

I am proud to be an American.

I am proud of my Grandfather who fought in World War 2 for my freedom, and the generation before him that fought for my freedom

I believe in this country, and although I may not always agree with things, I am proud of what my country stands for.

I believe in freedom of religion.
I believe in the right to bear arms.
I believe in the freedom of speech.
I am thankful to live in a land where we the people have the right to chose our leaders (even if you don't agree with the choice)
And I believe In God We Trust!

Yes well said.
I also believe in the right for doctors to treat Lyme disease with long term antibiotics if they consider necessary without fear of legal action, driven by greedy insurance companies.

What a pity legislation has had to be instigated to make this possible in 5 states so far, if necessary the charities will push for it in every state, so another 45 to go.

One day the Infectious Diseases Society of America will wake up to the fraud pepitrated by the people who wrote the 2006 Guidelines and start taking Chronic Lyme Disease seriously.

Meanwhile thousands of patients throughout the world struggle for diagnosis and adequate treatment, it is a disgrace.

I have hopes that President Obama may inject some sense into the politics of this dreadful illness.

Sorry Dirt Princes not your fault you just touched a nerve.

Hi Dirt Princess. I apologise for getting on my soap box. If you have time to read my story Lyme Life on the right of my blog then you will start to understand. Then on the top right are links into many useful sites including research but for a quick over view www.underourskin.com has produced an amazing documentary which will be visiting cinemas around USA on this site you can see trailer and also many other clips. It appears dramatic but I assure you for thousands it is absolutely representative. Many patients never realise that their ill health is conected to a tiny tick bite that they probably were not aware of.
What really incenses me is stories like www.lewisjeynes.co.uk also a link on my blogroll. Lewis was normal toddler until biten at aged 2 he has declined into being unable to use arms and legs and can't swollow so is fed by a tube and can't hold his head up and has seizures. At last he has now privately been diagnosed with Lyme Disease using more sophisticated tests in Germany as there are major problems with usual tests used which are 40/50% inaccurate in late stage illness.
Now because our HPA follows IDSA guidelines which were discredited by Att Gen Blumenthall for authors having significant financial interests in Insurance, research and vaccine production. So at presnt Lewis is struggling to get adequate treatment.
Many garden bloggers live in areas surrounded by deer and so it is important to get a good understanding of this illness.

Catherine, yes we all need to remember them. I have many friends who have spouses overseas. I also have cousins that have served in Iraq, and could be called back any moment

Stephanie I think we have a lot to celebrate :)

Susie have a great weekend and wonderful 4th!

Betsy, God Bless you :)

Joanne, where we live deer ticks are rampid. If people here find a tick on them, that is the first thing they do...get tested. Also, if people start experiencing syptoms they go get checked. I know so many people locally that are affected my Lyme disease. I have read your story before, and it brought me to tears! I am so glad that they finally diagnosed you. I commend you for your hard work promoting Lyme Disease, because it is real, and it is no joke! I see people suffer from it, and it is nothing to take lightly. I am going to do a post about you one day if that is ok???? I have done a post on Lyme disease and other pests before. You can read it here:

Well said, DP! No matter what, we still have it better in our USA than most others in any country in the world. So glad to be American.

I am delighted that you are so clued up on Lyme disease. I have no problems with you using my story but it is nothing compared with many others. The Documentary Under our skin is worth plugging, I think it is something everybody should see. Because tests are not reliable many people get told by doctors they haven't got Lyme or because of IDSA get given only a short course of antibiotics.
One day when the medical profession get their heads round this it will have a significant affect on the way many illnesses are assessed and treated as so many of them have been found to be conected to Borrelia. Not all but some.

I enjoyed your informative Bug post.
