Down at the Island

Ahhhh...island living!! Me and my girl friend Von went down to Dauphin Island Saturday to catch some rays. Another friend of mine has a house right on the bay, so we laid out there. This was a big weekend for Dauphin Island, because it was the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. People come from all over to fish in this rodeo. There were 1,000s of people there. We didn't actually stop and go in the rodeo area, because there was no where to park, and way to many people. So we just drove by everything. There where vendors set up everywhere selling food, shirts, you name it! Nice huh!
We got to be by the water, but in the pool! Can't beat it! Later that afternoon we decided to head to Dauphin Island (which is about 5 minutes away). This is the Dauphin Island bridge. You may or may not remember last year when Lam Luong threw his four children of the bridge....well this is the bridge.
Von took all of the pictures for me while I was driving...so enjoy the ride....
Peanuts for sale!
Those skinny little buildings are condos! I have always wanted to go in them. They don't look big enough for a bed!
TINY!
There were people everywhere and the traffic was really bad
This is the elementary school...on the beach!
Town Hall
Nice umbrella!
The Sheriffs were out everywhere. These just happen to be on horses
Fort Gaines is the sister fort to Fort Morgan that I visited while I was at Gulf Shores
Dauphin Island Sea Lab. This is one of the NEATEST places to visit
I LOVED this house! There are some really neat houses on the island
After riding around the island...we headed back over the bridge
This is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at! They have great food!
Dauphin Island is such a neat place. It is much smaller and more quaint the Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. It is very family oriented.
Von and I spent the whole weekend just hanging out. The Hunter was fishing in the deep sea rodeo and hers was out of town. After laying out Saturday we made some chicken alfredo and watched a few movies. Sunday we went to Old Time Pottery and South Eastern Salvage...I love both of those places. It was a great relaxing weekend.
The Hunter didn't win anything, but he did catch some great fish that we will be frying up soon!

What a weekend you had! Looks like a neat place - if ya like crowds and sun - hehehe.
I like the house for sale, it looks like one I grew up in. And that nice big porch? I got in trouble cause my pet rooster, Rudy, was always pooping on it!!! LOL Dad said if I didn't clean it up we'd be having Rudy for dinner. So one day I came home from school and no Rudy and we had chicken for dinner. I was so sick I couldn't eat - just knew I should have cleaned that porch!!! Dad brought Rudy out from the shed where he hid him later.
LOL Too funny. Yup nice house, great memories.
That's too bad The Hunter didn't win but I know he had fun cause Bob always does when he's in any kind of competition. Winning is nice but extra. The fun is what counts.
I'm finally trying to get back and do a post and some visiting. The heat is getting to me so have had to stay pretty low key.
Loved your comment about the 5 star bird feeders. Mine was $1 at a garage sale. LOL And for that I got a rental on top of the restaurant!

Hi DP, Looks like you all had a wonderful weekend. AND--since the Hunter did catch some fish--well, that makes the trip worth it.

Dauphin Island looks like a neat place. I've never been in that area much ---except going to and from between Florida and Texas.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful weekend with us.
Hugs,
Betsy

It's beautiful there. Those condos were teeny, I wonder why they are so small in all that space?
Your friend has a beautiful yard and view.

What a fabulous place to visit, thank you for this post.. I love seeing other places from the comfort of my study. Sounds like you had an absolutely fabulous weekend. Idiotic question: the boys selling the peanuts?Do they grow them near you?

You should be brown as a biscuit with all of your beach trips this summer. Way to crowded for me...Looks like a nice place though.

Betsy we are going to have some fish tonight for dinner

Stephanie I want to go inside those condos so bad! They are so skinny!

Ellie Mae it was a great day

Tootsie I cant wait!!!

Shantana you could get some great pictures there

My English Country Garden, yes they grow peanuts all over Mobile and Baldwin county. So they are home grown and fresh!

Darla I am pretty tan if I must say!!! It was pretty crowded this past weekend, but normally it is not crowded at all

Jean you need to plan a trip to Dauphin Island. You can take a ferry over to Gulf Shores

Lilsista for the longest time I thought they were little stores or something. But people actually stay in them. They can't be any more than 15' deep
