Fertilizer Friday

It FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!! Whoo hoo! Time to head on over to Tootsie place because it is Fertilizer Friday! Click on the photo above and it will take you over to Tootsie's place and you can sign up there to flaunt your flowers. Before I flaunt my flowers, lets test the soil first. The Hunter has a soil tester, which is great. Everyone should have one. I went out yesterday to check the pH of the soil around ALL of my hydrangeas....I clearly knew what it was going to say since ALL of my hydrangeas are blue.....which means the soil has high alkalinity. Everyone I tested was between a 6-7 all 10 of them. I am going to check other parts of the garden later...just curious
Here is the package it come in One of the hydrangeas I tested, sorry it doesn't have any blooms....I cut them and used them for arrangements :) what else are you supposed to do with flowers!
Now let's flaunt some flowers....or weeds! My flowers beds are in DESPERATE need of weeding! All this rain we have gotten in the past 2 weeks really made the weeds shoot up. All of the following photos with the exception of the Dinner Plate Dahlia, were taken in the front yard this morning. We will do the back yard another Friday

I am leaving tomorrow to go to the BEACH!!!! For a whole week! I am so excited. I am going to Gulf Shores with my family. I am not sure if I will have Internet access or not, so I may or may not be blogging....I don't know if I can make it an entire week without blogging! I will take tons of photos and have lots of great post in store for ya'll. Before I leave tomorrow though...I MUST pull those weeds....they are driving me nuts, and I can't stand the thought of waiting a whole week to pull them! Maybe I will have internet access, but if not....I will miss ya'll, and reading about what ya'll are up to.
Here is where I will be http://www.gulfshores.com/ if you want to come visit :)

Your flowers are looking great. Is lantana a perennial there? I'm just trying it for the first time, but it's an annual here.
Have fun on your trip and don't worry about the weeds!

Catherine lantana is a perennial here. Mine has come back for 4 years, it will get large enough to trim into a hedge (which is what my neighbor does). I have also seen it pruned into a tree, in the shape of a topiary! Ofcourse it would have to be pretty old to do that

I love the effect of the rain drops on the petals. The lantana is looking good. I love Althea. It looks so delicate. The hibiscus bud is pretty too. Hope you have a fabulous time. You won't get sunburned with all that sunscreen you bought.

Such pretty blooms. You have some beautiful lilies. Okay, a munching deer on the soil testing meter is not a good thing somehow ;-D

Becca I love rain drops on flowers.

HHG you can clearly tell that isn't a "garden" soil tester...more of a hunting plot soil tester. But hey it works the same

Have a wonderful trip! I'm drooling... your flowers are gorgeous! I need to plant some dahlias. I've never planted them before. I wonder if it's too late in Zone 6 to get some tubers in the ground. I saw some tubers at Home Depot the other day. -Jackie

Gorgeous dahlias and hydrangeas. My dahlias finally have some buds so it won't be long now. I like that pH meter. I might need to look around for some. Your pH is pretty awesome for all plants. Enjoy this wonderful day!

Dirt Princess said...

Ellie May I don't think it is too late to plant them there.

Laura thanks. I will be around to check it out

Tina I am SURE he got that at Academy, Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop. Compared to other pH testers it was fairly inexpensive. Good little tool to have. I did test the soil around the blueblerries and it was perfectly neutral

Hi. I think I like the Althea the best today. Nice artistic shot of your Hibiscus! I like your soil gadget, too. Between 6 and 7. Nice I think I'm 11 (pure limestone).
