Waiting............

All along the Gulf Coast we are watching and waiting on this.....................................

The oil rig (Deppwater Horizon) was about a 3 -1/2 hour boat ride from Dauphin Island or Gulf Shores. I live 45 minutes from Dauphin Island, and an hour away from Gulf Shores. So this is VERY close to home for me. It is extremely sad as well. No one really knows what type of impact this will have on our environment, and not to mention our economy. The oil spill is already affecting our economy here.
Here you can see just how close. You can see Mobile, AL on the top of the picture, I live just 10 minutes from Mobile,
In Bayou La Batre, AL, most people make a living on Shrimp Boats. You can see all of those shrimp boats sitting in the foreground. They can't get out due to the oil booms that are being launched.  To me, it is a vicious cycle. This affects everyone, in every way shape and form. I am already beginning to see the toll it is taking on the local cities, and it hasn't reached shore yet.

The bridge in the background is Dauphin Island bridge. Workers are putting out oil booms

I am curious to know just how many MILES of oil boom have been put out. I already know the answer to that one though..........enough to cover the coast lines of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

All photos are from Mobile Press Register. You can visit HERE to read more from our local newspaper about the oil spill and to see more photos.

You can also visit our local news station NBC 15

I don't even know what to say. Scary is a too soft word for this situation...

This entire oil episode has me so depressed and sad. Just as it looked as if the Gulf Coast states finally were getting over all the hurricane damage, this has to happen. I am so worried about the wildlife, the marshes that we need to protect us from future storms, and the people who make their living on the water. It just boggles the mind when you realize the huge area that could be affected.

I live in Baton Rouge and we are all just sick with the possible long term effects on the wildlife as well as the economy. We have many nesting areas on our coast. For birds that don't even live in Louisiana.

And we are also re-thinking our plans for our beach vacation this year!

it's really so terrible. I can't believe this is happening now. Hopefully some very good things in climate/energy reform come from this.

This is really sad to see. I feel for the marine life as well as everyone who this is affecting. I guess that would probably all of us in the long run.

This is going to have an impact on our coast for many many years to come. It is sickening to think of all the animals that are going to be affected. And it is sickening to think of the impact it is going to have on the economy. I feel that BP has not done enough to secure the oil. They are dragging their feet. They should have known from the gitgo that there was more leaking than what was originally stated. So sad.

What a terrible thing. We read about this and see it on the news but until we hear from someone who will be affected it just doesn't feel real.

My heart goes out to you. This is one thing that has the capability of not only causin' devastation in the Gulf but also the nation. I just can't even wrap my brain around what this will do.

God bless and my prayers are with you.

DP, thanks for your words on your hibiscus. I am glad it all worked out fine. Thanks again for mailing those precious seeds.
Btw, I hope they can clean the sea as much as possible...

Have a wonderful day!

Princess...I sure thought about you and my favorite place...Orange Beach.
I do hope they get the oil stopped but even then, the damage is done. Let us hope and pray that this situation gets better very quickly.
