Planning a Nursery.....

...not that kind of nursery...this kind of nursery....

A baby nursery. When I found out I was pregnant I would look at all the boy/girl stuff. There is a million times more stuff for girls than there is for boys!!!! As many options as there are for girls, I could not find a single baby bedding set that I liked. I really didn't know if I would ever find anything I liked. I had a vision in my head of how I wanted her nursery to be, and I had to make that work.

I got her rug from Overstock. I wanted a nice rug that she could grow into. This one is wool, so it should last us a while!

The angel wings came from Bella Cottage. I fell in love with them when I saw them. I looked everywhere for the perfect pair of wings to put over her bed. I would say these are perfect.

I came across Southern Charm Quilts one day on Etsy. I fell in love with her work, and ironically, she is from Alabama. You can pick and choose the fabric you want for her quilts. One of her creations ended up being the bedding for Sweet Pea.

I had a lot of old items going in this room. I had to make them all work together.

The glider was my grandma Reed's (who Sweet Pea is named after). She passed away a few weeks before Sweet Pea was born. I bought the dresser at an consignment store. It was a natural wood...but of course I had to paint it. The pictures above the changing table are old flash cards. I bought those years ago at a local "junk" store. They have a date on them of 1954. I thought they were adorable!!! Sweet Pea stares and talks to them while we freshen her up.

I had to replace all the knobs on the furniture. I wanted something really cute....

and I found these little birds! They worked out perfect!

Ofcourse, we had to have somewhere to put hair bows.....

I had these old louvered closet doors. I cleaned them up and used them to hold all of her hairbows.

The chifferobe was mine when I was a little girl.

The baby hanging on the door was made by Frilly Frog Artwork ...who is also from Alabama. She makes awesome door hangers, etc. I wanted a pink/camo baby for the hospital door hanger. We are big hunters around here. The rocking chair was my dads.

My grandparents bought him that rocking chair when he was 5....which currently makes it 60 years old. The little bears were mine when I was little. My mom kept a lot of mine and my brothers toys. So oneday Sweet Pea will inherit 9+ Cabbage Patch kids, Care Bears, etc..Where as my brother's daughter will inherit some GI Joe's, Star Wars characters and some Army Men!

The chest of drawers was my husbands when he was a little boy. I painted it to match everything else in the room. I took this picture before she was born, so some things are a little different now.

I saw the "button" art on Pinterest. You just gotta love Pinterest. I used all of my moms old buttons to make this "R". I glued it on burlap then glue to a matte. The wooden frame came from Michael's. I spray painted it to match the 800 other things in her room I spray painted. The marbles in the jar were also my dads. Those marbles are really expensive when you find them at antique stores. Luckily mine were free!

Out of everything in her room.....this is my absolute favorite...

her mobile. I wanted to make her mobile. I found an old lampshade at Goodwill and stripped them shade off of it. I wanted just the frame. And this was a pretty cool frame! I spray painted it. Then I used the scrap material from her bedding and cute out hearts and birds. I bought crystals to dangle from the hearts. The heart in the center has her initials on each side. All the ribbon used came from her baby shower gifts. The pearls are just old necklaces that I cut up and re-strung.

I took the music part off of another mobile....you know...the part that  you crank, it plays music and turns....and I rigged it up to the mobile.

She LOOOOOVES this mobile!

But how could you not love it. I love it...but I am partial!

This was actually a mirror in an ugly gold frame. I picked it up at Goodwill also. I used the last few drops of my spray paint to cover that gold and then sprayed the mirror with my trusty chalk board paint and stuck it on her door.

I love how it turned out. So far, she does too :-)

Today I am linking up with Linda at Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday so now that you are done here....run on over there and check out what other creative bloggers have done.

I know that was such an exciting time fixing up the nursery as you awaited that sweetie. Very creative April. Especially love that old rocker. It is so neat how you incorporated so much of family stuff into the room and made it all work.
